What exactly is a peshtemal towel?

A peshtemal is a flat-woven cotton towel traditionally used in the Turkish hammam (bath house). Unlike a terry towel it has no looped pile, so it stays thin and light, dries in hours instead of overnight, and packs down to a fraction of the bulk. The word comes from Persian, meaning “covering”.

Are peshtemal towels really absorbent, or do they just feel thin?

They are genuinely absorbent. Long-staple Turkish cotton wicks water efficiently, and because the fabric is flat rather than looped, absorbency actually improves with every wash as the fibres relax. You dry by patting and rubbing rather than wrapping, and one peshtemal usually handles a full shower.

What GSM and sizes can you produce for our brand?

We weave from 120 GSM up to 300 GSM on the flat weave, so you can choose a feather-light travel towel or a denser hand-feel. Standard sizes run from hand towels (50x90cm) and bath peshtemals (90x170cm) up to oversized beach towels, with custom sizes for adults and kids on request.

What is your minimum order quantity for custom peshtemals?

Our MOQ is low so you can test a design before scaling up. Tell us your target market and we will recommend a starting quantity per colourway; repeat orders are usually far more flexible once the spec is set.

What is the difference between a peshtemal, a fouta and a Turkish towel?

They are essentially the same product under different regional names. Peshtemal is the Turkish name, fouta is the North African (Tunisian) name, hammam towel refers to the bath house it came from, and “Turkish towel” is the general English retail term. All describe a flat-woven cotton towel with fringed ends.

How do I wash and care for a custom peshtemal?

Soak a new peshtemal in cold water for a few hours, then machine wash at 30-40°C with mild liquid detergent. Never use fabric softener — the silicone coats the fibres and blocks absorbency. Line dry or tumble on low heat, and wash separately from items with zips or hooks so they do not tangle in the tassels.

Can you print or embroider our own logo and design?

Yes. We offer yarn-dyed stripes, woven jacquard logos, screen printing, digital printing and embroidery, all matched to your Pantone colours. We can also add woven brand labels, hang tags and private-label packaging so the towel arrives retail-ready.

How long does production and delivery take?

Typical lead time is 25-35 days after artwork approval, depending on weave, print method and order volume. We handle door-to-door shipping from our mill to your warehouse anywhere in the world, so you do not need your own freight forwarder.
